[Skills] Network Connectivity Testing with Windows PowerShell

Background Information

Almost all modern operating systems (OS) such as Windows, MacOS, and Linux include tools to test your network and Internet connections. Two of the most commonly used tools are ping and tracert (TraceRoute). For this assignment you will use both of the tools with Windows PowerShell. You will take a screenshot and submit that screenshot to Focus.

  • ping is used to test latency: how quickly information moves from your computer to another AND back again. It is measured in milliseconds.
  • tracert is used to test how many different servers your data travels through before reaching its destination. Generally, the fewer servers the data travels through the lower your latency.

For this activity you will use ping and tracert on two different server URL's (i.e. google.com, jacksonville.com, microsoft.com, etc.) You will take a screenshot of the PowerShell window showing the results from these two tools and submit that screenshot to Focus.

Content Rubric

  1. Screenshot shows the ping results for two different server URLs. [5 Points]
  2. Screenshot shows the tracert results for two different server URLs. [5 Points]
  3. Screenshot has your First Name and Last Initial draw/painted/edited into the bottom right corner. [5 Points]

Process Rubric

  1. File name is: lastname_firstname_internet_tests [5 Points]
  2. File format is .png or .jpg [5 Points]
    • You can submit more than one screenshot if necessary but PLEASE create a .zip file (compressed folder) if you do.
  3. Project is submitted to Focus by Monday, April 20, 2020 at 11:59PM. [10 Points]

[Cooking] Overnight Oats

Description

This recipe is easy to make and tasty. I like it because it saves a ton of time in the morning. 25-30 minutes of prep work will give you breakfast for the week.

Ingredients

These are the ingredients and measurements PER SERVING.

  1. 0.5 Cup, Traditional Rolled Oatmeal (Not Instant)
  2. 0.5 Cup, Milk
  3. 1 8oz. Mason Jars / Tupperware / Other Sealing Container
  4. 1/8 Teaspoon Cinnamon
  5. 1 Tablespoon Honey
  6. Splash of Vanilla Extract

Directions

  1. Measure the oats into the container.
  2. Add the cinnamon.
  3. Add the honey.
  4. Add the milk.
  5. Add the vanilla extract.
  6. Seal the lid tightly on the container.
  7. Shake vigorously to mix the ingredients.
  8. Place in the refrigerator and leave overnight. The oatmeal will be good for 3-4 days. I have found that day two or three has the best taste.

Modifications

  • Adding milk will make the oatmeal creamier, reducing milk will make the oatmeal thicker.
  • Reduce the amount of honey to cut down on sugar.
  • When prepping you can also mix in flax seeds, chocolate chips, or peanut butter for example.
  • When you actually eat it, you can mix in fresh fruit such as berries or apples. If you put fruit in overnight it tends to get mushy and gross.
